INOVISA was created in 2005 at the School of Agriculture / University of Lisbon, with the purpose of supporting lecturers, researchers and students in the creation of their own business projects.
Located in Tapada da Ajuda, at a university campus (University of Lisbon), INOVISA benefits from unique surroundings.
Tapada da Ajuda is a botanical park with approximately 247 acres of land, located in the centre of Lisbon (five minutes away from Marquês de Pombal), holding an historical, architectural and botanical heritage of great abundance and diversity.
The aim of Inovisa is to lead the development of innovation and excellence in our operating areas – the agricultural, food and forestry sector – with a focus on the community of Portuguese speaking countries.
We position ourselves as an open interface structure between the scientific/academic setting and the business framework.
We believe in the agricultural, food and forestry sector, and wish to assist companies in these areas to improve their competitiveness, as a contribution to their success.
We trust in a culture of cooperative innovation to allow the achievement of excellence.
We create value by sharing knowledge, connecting people and improving skills, whether through supporting entrepreneurship and business development, or by promoting the dissemination of knowledge and technology.
INOVISA has two operating pillars – Entrepreneurship and Business Development (BOOST); and Knowledge and Technology Transfer (LINK). The Digital Communication of Knowledge area (SPREAD) supports both these operating pillars transversally.
Regarding the scope of action, we operate both nationally and internationally, holding a fourth working area of Cooperation, Development and Internationalisation (GLOBAL), which supports the international component for INOVISA.
The BOOST area – Entrepreneurship and Business Development – is a pillar of INOVISA that supports startups that develop innovative products and services targeting agricultural, food and forestry sector.
At the same time, we want to strengthen the links between these startups and the companies in the sector, bringing them a new source of innovation.
One of the strategic objectives of the BOOST area is to implement cropUP, an international initiative to promote agrifood and forestry innovation.
The LINK area – Knowledge and Technology Transfer – is the other operational pillar of INOVISA, which promotes the connection between the scientific/academic setting and the business framework in the agricultural, food and forestry sector.
With the experience attained over the last few years, particularly as coordinators of Rede INOVAR, INOVISA holds as a strategic goal to continue leading the promotion of knowledge and technology transfer in the sector at a national level.
An additional purpose is to assume a position of greater dynamics at an international level, encouraging networking and project development, with particular emphasis in Portuguese speaking countries; at an European level, we want to act as a structure for advocacy and connection with the European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability.
The SPREAD area – Digital Communication of Knowledge– derives from the increasing importance of digital communication and the need to communicate about knowledge and technology in an assertive and effective way in the agriculture, food and forestry sector.
The goal is to promote innovation and a massive use of digital communication in the whole sector, by developing digital communication strategies and creating, labelling and disclosing knowledge and technology digital contents, particularly in video format.
INOVISA has been developing this area by providing services and boosting digital communication of knowledge projects related to entrepreneurship, business development and knowledge and technology transfer.
The GLOBAL area – Cooperation, Development and Internationalisation – is a transversal area of INOVISA which promotes innovation, entrepreneurship and knowledge and technology transfer at an international level in the agriculture, food and forestry sector, with a focus in Europe and in Portuguese speaking countries.
The GLOBAL area articulates and promotes initiatives developed internationally, along with the other areas of INOVISA.
The operational work of the GLOBAL area has been strategically established through the SKAN Platform, a network initiative coordinated by INOVISA which promotes knowledge and technology sharing in the agriculture, food and forestry sector between Europe, Africa and Latin America.
